Reverse Air Filter (RAF) and Economy Filter (ECP) Service – Cement Australia, SA Nov 2025

Mideco recently conducted a critical performance service for Cement Australia’s filtration systems in South Australia, focusing on the Reverse Air Filter (RAF) and Economy Filter (ECP) units. The primary objective of this visit was to replace key mechanical drive components and optimize the system to ensure continuous, high-volume dust control.

Background

As Australia’s largest integrated cement manufacturer and distributor, Cement Australia manages massive volumes of building materials, which creates a constant challenge with fine particulate matter. The South Australia site requires robust dust control to minimize environmental impact and health risks during the intensive loading and unloading of cement products. Maintaining the structural and mechanical integrity of their filtration systems is essential to managing these fine dust hazards and ensuring a safe, compliant workspace.

Service Log

Since the last visit, the systems have remained operational, though mechanical wear on the drive assemblies had begun to impact overall efficiency. During this service visit, Mideco technicians successfully overhauled the RAF chain assembly, including the installation of new drive dogs and sprockets. To further enhance the system’s durability, the team implemented upgrades to the drive plates and the idler box. These modifications were verified through a series of performance tests to ensure that the mechanical sequences were synchronized and that the system was capturing fine dust at the required capacity.

Field Observations

The service visit provided an excellent opportunity for on-the-job training with the local operations team to ensure a deeper understanding of the system’s mechanical nuances. Observations of site habits showed that while the system is performing effectively, proactive maintenance is key to preventing unplanned downtime.

Future Proofing

To maintain the gains in productivity and ensure the long-term reliability of these systems, Mideco recommends a strict service interval.
