Bat Vent® 2.0

Pressurised Air Protection for Control Rooms and Site Offices

Dust exposure does not end at the crusher or transfer point. Fine airborne particles move into control rooms, site offices, crib rooms, and accommodation units through doors, gaps, and ventilation systems.

The Bat Vent® protects these enclosed spaces by filtering incoming air and maintaining positive pressure. It removes coarse, fine, and 0.3 micron particles before they reach the staff. Mining, quarrying, cement, and heavy industrial operations use the system to safeguard personnel working near dust-generating processes outside the main production zone.

This system protects the people who manage the operation.

When Outdoor Dust Becomes an Indoor Risk

Airborne silica, coal dust, mineral fines, and process-generated particles travel beyond active work areas. Control room operators and office staff often face ongoing low-level exposure that accumulates over time.

The Bat Vent prevents contaminated air from entering enclosed environments. It draws in external air, filters it through a three-stage system, and creates stable positive pressure inside the room. That pressure barrier blocks unfiltered air from infiltrating the space.

The result is consistent indoor air quality even when external dust levels rise.

Extending Dust Control Beyond the Production Area

Dust control does not end at extraction points or transfer systems. Airborne particles travel into control rooms, site offices, and other enclosed workspaces where personnel spend extended periods.

Bat Vent protects these environments through filtration and controlled pressurisation. The system filters incoming air and maintains a stable internal pressure that limits dust ingress from surrounding operations.

Many sites combine Bat Vent with other Mideco systems to control exposure across the entire operation. Bat Booth removes dust from personnel before they enter enclosed areas. Burnley Baffles reduce dust generation during bulk material transfer. Together, these systems reduce airborne exposure across both workspaces and personnel.

“We have used your [Burnley Baffles] successfully on several projects.”

Senior Project Manager, AMG, Inc.

“The Bat Booth is actually unreal. We have got night shift workers, and it’s a lot faster and more efficient to use. Instead of relying on a simple handgun, this equipment really gets the job done quickly and effectively.”

Alex Stevenson
Leading Hand, Hanson Wolffdene Quarry

“The Bat Booth is very good. The maintenance guys use it the most because they get covered in dust and dirt during their work. It makes a huge difference in keeping them clean and comfortable. They really appreciate how effective it is for that purpose.”

John Taylor, Quarry Manager
Hanson Ferny Grove Quarry

“Bat Booth has been a great installation here at Glasshouse. It's allowed our guys at the end of the day, after they've done their maintenance and before they jump into their vehicles and head home to their families, to lock out of the MCC room and come into the Bat Booth and be de-dusted... to make sure that we're not increasing their exposure of respirable dust.”

Chris Wilson, Quarry Manager
Hanson Glasshouse Quarry

Performance That Protects People Indoors

  • Improves indoor air quality near dust sources
  • Maintains controlled positive pressure
  • Reduces dust ingress through doors and structural gaps
  • Filters particles down to 0.3 microns
  • Operates continuously for round-the-clock protection
  • Supports compliance with NIOSH RI 9701 and Recognised Standard 20
  • Integrates into retrofit and new installations

Engineering That Works in Harsh Industrial Conditions

The Bat Vent integrates filtration, airflow control, and pressure monitoring in one compact enclosure.

Key components include

  • Coarse pre-filter for larger particles
  • Fine filter for secondary capture
  • HEPA filter for high-efficiency fine particle removal
  • Integrated exhaust fan

The system continuously measures pressure and adjusts intake or recirculation to maintain indoor protection.

How the System Maintains a Clean Indoor Environment

  1. The unit draws outside air into the enclosure.
  2. Air passes through the coarse pre-filter, then the fine filter, then the HEPA filter.
  3. Clean air enters the room, increasing internal pressure.
  4. Once pressure stabilises, the internal air cycles through the fine and HEPA filters to remove remaining particulates.
  5. If pressure drops, the system reduces recirculation and increases fresh air intake to restore positive pressure.

This cycle continues automatically, ensuring a steady supply of filtered air and a protected indoor workspace.

Designed for Sites Where Dust Never Stops

The Bat Vent suits are enclosed environments located close to dust-generating operations.

Typical installations include:

  • Control rooms
  • Site offices
  • Crib rooms
  • Enclosures beside crushing and screening facilities
  • Accommodation units near processing plants

Industries include:

  • Mining
  • Quarries
  • Cement and construction
  • Waste management and recycling
  • Copper smelting
  • Powder coating
  • Woodworking
  • Textile production
  • Healthcare environments
  • Infrastructure projects

How Bat Vent Outperforms Standard HVAC Units

Standard HVAC systems are designed for temperature control rather than pressure management; they circulate air but do not maintain controlled positive pressure to block infiltration from nearby dust-prone operations.

The Bat Vent filters incoming air through three stages and regulates internal pressure in real time. It prevents contaminated air from entering while continuously cleaning internal air. That combination delivers measurable indoor protection.

The Bat Vent’s unique solution

The Bat Vent protects workers who are not directly exposed to the main source of dust but who work nearby on a regular basis.

In the past few months, Australia has seen cases of silicosis among employees working in admin buildings near quarries. Unfortunately, this happened because they were unaware of the health risks involved.

Many of us spend a large portion of our lives at work. Mideco understands that, whatever industry you work in, health and safety come first for everyone involved. This is why we created the Bat Vent® – alongside our other personnel dedusting solutions – to minimise exposure of workers who might not realise that they are in fact indirectly exposed to dust.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The system includes a detailed installation manual for maintenance personnel.

Room size does not limit performance as long as the space remains properly sealed. Larger rooms may require two units.

No. The system filters and pressurises air. It does not provide temperature control. Air conditioning may operate alongside it if required.

The system uses a three-stage process including coarse, fine, and HEPA filtration.

It functions as an engineering control that prevents dust infiltration into enclosed spaces. While highly effective as a standalone solution, it works best alongside the Bat Booth to remove dust from personnel before entry.

Routine inspection and scheduled filter replacement maintain airflow and filtration efficiency.
