Bat Booth® Service – NSW Government Heritage Stoneworks, NSW Feb 2026

Mideco recently visited the Heritage Stoneworks facility in Alexandria, NSW, to perform a scheduled performance service on their Bat Booth. Since the last service, the unit has successfully managed over 3,500 individual de-dusting cycles, proving to be a vital tool in protecting the artisans who preserve Australia’s historic sandstone infrastructure.

Background

Heritage Stoneworks represents a unique and vital sector of the construction and restoration industry, employing skilled stonemasons to maintain over 800 heritage-significant sandstone buildings across New South Wales. Unlike the high-volume output of a typical quarry, this environment involves intricate carving, shaping, and hand-processing of sandstone. These artisan techniques produce extremely fine silica dust. This project highlights that the Bat Booth is not just for heavy mining, it is an essential safety system for any industry where workers handle stone and require a reliable way to keep their clothing and workspace free from hazardous dust.

Service Log

Since the previous service in July 2025, the Bat Booth has performed with zero faults, maintaining stable control sequences and fan functions despite the fine nature of sandstone dust. Our technical team recorded 3,500+ uses since the last visit, averaging roughly 16 de-dusting cycles per day. During the February service, we conducted a comprehensive multi-point inspection and replaced the filter cartridges with compliant on-site disposal, among many other things.

Field Observations

The data proves that the artisans at Heritage Stoneworks have made the Bat Booth a part of their daily safety habit. Workers are using the booth correctly and regularly to manage the dust generated during the intricate stone-cutting process. The site management’s proactive stance on safety was clear, with a specific request to move to a more frequent service schedule to ensure the highest possible level of protection for their team and apprentices.

Future Proofing

To meet the high standards of workplace health and safety compliance required for silica-heavy work, the service interval for this site will be increased. While the standard recommendation is every 4 to 6 months, Heritage Stoneworks has requested a quarterly (3-month) service cycle to stay ahead of dust saturation. This move ensures the Bat Booth remains in peak condition, supporting the next generation of stonemasonry apprentices as they learn their craft in a safe, dust-controlled environment.
