Background

BHP is a world-leading resources company. They extract and process minerals, oil and gas, with more than 80,000 employees and contractors, primarily in Australia and the Americas. their products are sold worldwide, with sales and marketing led through Singapore and Houston, United States. their global headquarters are in Melbourne, Australia.

Problem

Due to the fact that they are among the world’s top producers of major commodities, including iron ore, metallurgical coal and copper; they were handling toxic and poisonous dust, which was highly dangerous for their personnel.

Solution

During 2016 BHPB Olympic Dam hired a Bat Booth® to clean that toxic and poisonous dust from the personnel and it performed to the highest standard. Despite working in an acidic environment, Bat Booth® excellent performance included passing every test and even the complete elimination of certain injuries.

Outcome

After the trial, BHPB asked Mideco to build two Bat Booths® to their standard.

These included:

  • Stainless steel case
  • Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) grating
  • Stainless steel piping and fittings
  • Pressure relief valve (PRV)
  • A special plug, that allowed to run the unit on plug&play principle

Bat Booths® have been installed at BHP Olympic Dam site in 2017. Since that time, they have been working perfectly, only required filters replacing.
