Minerals processing

Dust particles are generated and can become airborne during many activities associated with producing and processing rock and mineral products. Overexposure to mineral and metal dusts can have serious consequences for human health.

Rock dusts, including coal dust and silicon dust, can cause long-term lung problems including silicosis, asbestosis, and pneumoconiosis.

Exposure to aluminium-containing minerals such as bauxite and iron ores is often accompanied by silica, which  may lead to the development of lung fibrosis and  interstitial lung disease. Over exposure to copper dust during copper smelting operations may cause  nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and have a potential to damage human liver.

Multiple independent studies have also found that occupational exposure to mineral dust is strongly associated with rheumatologic disease risk.

Mineral processing plants  require effective, highly customisable dust control systems that would help them meet the industry regulations and protect their staff.

Mideco’s range of dust solutions  from dust collectors to internationally patented Burnley® Baffles, customisable to various size of granular bulk material and suitable for any size hopper, can take care of all your mineral dust needs.

The design of our  award-winning dust suppression system, Bat Booth®  is included in the most respected OHS publication on mineral dust: U.S. National Institute of the Occupational Safety and Health ( NIOSH)’s  latest 2019 Dust Control Handbook for Industrial Minerals Mining and Processing. Bat Booth® is presented is one of the most effective personnel de-dusting systems which helps  keep dust exposure to a minimum thus reducing the risk of the occupational lung diseases.
